Welcome to Canada Sheep & Lamb Farms Ltd.

We’ve been in the sheep business for 40 plus years!  Our experience teaches us that effective management practices are necessary to maintain a healthy, happy and productive flock of sheep and shepherds.

Animal care is our top priority; however, we take great pride in the management of our most valuable resources, our land and water - utilizing best practices in manure management and a crop rotation that eliminates the need for commercial fertilizer and minimizes opportunities for water contamination.

Our 10,000 ewes are in a year round lambing program with each ewe bred to lamb 3 times every 2 years. We’ve been using genetic selection software to carefully select replacement ewes and rams for their ability to be effective within our management systems. Some of our ewes will be successfully raising a 30th lamb in their 8th year.   We’ve organized our ewe flock into groups of 144 ewes with a new group beginning to lamb each week of the year. This ensures our facilities are always in use and we have lambs to deliver each week of the year.

We are excited to announce that we’ve formed a new company based on the Sarto Sheep Farm’s genetics and experience. Together with Integrated Foods of New Zealand we have agreed to a substantial expansion of our breeding flock and the development of a large feeding and processing operation.

We will extend our “on farm” apprenticeship program to help 20-25 producers establish breeding flocks of 2500+ ewes. These “Multipliers” will complete an apprenticeship on our farm and then take this experience and 300-1000 bred ewes, that we provide, to their home location.  We have developed a comprehensive training manual to continue to support the Multiplier in their operation. We currently have 3 Multipliers with a total of 6000 ewes lambing in the next 12 months.

The program will be described in more detail in the Multiplier section which is coming soon to our website.
